Description:
Tess is an educational toy which uses the symmetries of the 17 plane
crystallographic groups (See [1] for the math) to make pretty pictures
using a user-defined region of a TIFF image. It is best to use a rich
color image. See the art of M.C. Escher for more pretty pictures made
with the same symmetries in mind.
Uses:
Fun and eventually there will be more online information so that this
could be a lab in an upper division abstract algebra course to
introduce the 17 planar groups.
Development Environment: Tess was developed under NeXTStep 2.2.
Installation:
Tess likes to be installed in /LocalApps and looks for images in
/LocalLibrary/Images but neither of these are required.
